Program Details (What Tennessee Requires)

Key elements districts must implement and maintain:

  • Cardiac Emergency Response Plan (CERP): Each local board & charter must adopt a school-site CERP aligned with American Heart Association (or similar) guidelines, designate a cardiac response team, define roles/communication, post the plan, and review it at least annually and after any cardiac event.
  • AEDs in Every Public School: At least one AED must be placed in each public school; additional AEDs placed per the CERP to cover academic, athletic, and community areas. AEDs must be accessible (not locked/hidden) and registered with local EMS; maintenance/testing logs required.
  • Staff Training & Readiness: CERP must identify training for team members and other employees, including CPR, first aid, and AED use; align with athletics emergency action plans where applicable.
  • Student CPR Instruction + AED Drill: Students receive CPR instruction that includes AED awareness and a schoolwide CPR/AED drill so students know the steps in an emergency.
  • Liability Protection: Schools and trained users operating under Title 68 AED program rules have civil-liability protections when acting without gross negligence.

We turn these requirements into a turnkey package: plan drafting, staff certification, AED mapping/registration, and drill documentation.
