What CPR Certification Does Galen Require?
According to the current 2026 Galen College of Nursing Tampa Bay Student Catalog, prelicensure nursing students are required to successfully complete a:
Basic Life Support (BLS) course approved by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
Students must maintain a current and valid BLS Provider certification card, and certification must remain current while participating in clinical or practicum experiences. Galen states that students without documented BLS certification cannot participate in clinical experiences.

This is the healthcare-professional level CPR course commonly required for nursing students and other healthcare programs.
American Heart Association BLS Training
In-Pulse CPR is an American Heart Association Training Center providing hands-on BLS training for healthcare professionals and students.
BLS training includes skills such as:
- Adult, child, and infant CPR
- Use of an AED
- Rescue breathing
- Team-based resuscitation
- Choking response
- High-quality chest compressions
Students who successfully complete the course receive an American Heart Association BLS Provider eCard.
